Pop Astrology Is Snake Oil—But Real Astrology Still Holds Me

Most people don’t understand astrology. They consume it like fast food—bite-sized horoscopes, vague memes, and identity buzzwords that flatter but never challenge.

It’s no wonder skeptics laugh. It does look like snake oil. And most of it is.

“It’s kind of like a snake oil salesman, who can sell anybody anything by staying general, right? Pop astrology is big because it’s generalized. Anybody can relate to it—and that’s what’s annoying.” -Starlite The Oracle

But underneath the fluff and glitter filters, there’s something real. Something older than religion. Something precise, painful, and unforgivingly true—if you know how to wield it.

“So then okay, we look at astrology, and then astrology is limited by the person interpreting it. So then it’s not really how it’s being interpreted. So then what is it?”

That’s the paradox. Astrology requires discernment. Not just to read it—but to trust what you see. And yet, ironically, the more you know, the less it needs your belief.

“It doesn’t require me to believe in it, which is funny, because most people think the opposite.”

Unlike ideologies that collapse when you stop feeding them energy, astrology seems to run on its own clockwork. It doesn’t need your faith. It needs your attention.

“Most people think astrology is just faith-based. But the funny thing is—this actually feels real.”

And the deeper you go, the more the gimmicks fall away. You begin to see through the seduction of pop-spirituality. The memes don’t hit the same anymore. The “divine feminine rising” reels feel like empty calories.

Because once you’ve touched the real thing—you can’t go back.

“I can also tell that those eating up pop astrology don’t really know themselves that deeply. Sometimes… it’s like they can be fooled so easily.”

And that’s the hardest part. Once you see how people are playing with sacred tools to sell safety, comfort, or dopamine…You feel the ache of how badly they need the real medicine. But you also know they’re not ready.

“They’re afraid to be disagreeable. You have to be a little more discerning. A little more skeptical. But for yourself.”

Discernment is the doorway. Not belief. Not blind faith. Not aesthetics.

Real astrology asks you to risk being wrong about yourself. To dig up the bones you buried. To question your reactions, your wounds, and your patterns. And still…somehow…to trust that the stars aren't lying.

Because they don’t lie. We just don’t always want to hear what they say.
