Women’s Spirituality vs. Men’s Spirituality

“Almost all forms of modern spirituality come from men. And what men perceive in the world as the right way to go about spiritual practices.” -Starlite The Oracle
For centuries, the dominant spiritual frameworks across the world have been written by men, structured by men, and passed down by men. But what happens when a system meant to awaken the soul was never designed for half of humanity?
This is the forgotten path of women’s spirituality—and it’s time to reclaim it.
The Masculine Lens of Devotion
In traditional systems, spiritual growth often looks like denial, sacrifice, and service. Think monks. Ascetics. Suffering to prove worth.
“A lot of practices believe they have to literally transcend the mundane…or that they have to live a monastic life.”
And for men, this makes sense:
“They’ve always been able to choose themselves. For them, spiritual discipline has come from being more of service… getting their ego to take a step back.”
So, when men are called into devotion, it's a meaningful rebalancing of their natural trajectory.
But for women?
Women Already Start in Service
“The last thing I need to do is shrink myself into more service to be closer to life.” “A lot of women are already doing so much service.”
Most women have lived their entire lives in devotion to others—to partners, children, institutions, families, and communities. Many never even had a chance to meet themselves.
“She never got to figure out who she was, what she liked, what brought her close to life, what set her soul on fire.”
So when women are told to submit more, serve more, shrink more, the result isn’t holiness—it’s burnout.
“Liberation for me would actually be to choose myself more.” -Starlite
It Was Never Made for Her
That’s why so many spiritual teachings fall flat for women. They weren’t made for her experience.
“That might be because it was written for a man… for him to transcend, he needed devotion. But she’s been doing that since the beginning. She lost herself along the way.”
In this masculine framework, the sacred feminine becomes domesticated, tamed, or erased. Her sensuality, chaos, instinct, and joy are labeled as “unspiritual.” And eventually, she stops showing up to her life.
“My youth is fading. I didn’t even get to meet myself. And now you’re losing interest in me? And I’m dying. My spirit is dying.”
A Neo-Matriarchal Model
This isn’t about flipping the power structure. It’s about honoring the differences.
“Neo-matriarchalism (Neom)… is understanding that true male spirituality gets away from rigid, self-serving ego and back to Spirit—by lifting up the woman.” -Vesuvius The Dreamweaver
It’s not about worshipping women because they’re “more sacred”—it’s about acknowledging that life moves through them, and structures should be built to support her wholeness, not exploit her service.
“She already has so much stress on her hips being the child bearer…no matter how much we try to equalize the sexes… females create life.”
Supporting her doesn’t make a man weak. It makes him whole. It aligns him with Spirit, not ego.
